Wow, we’re halfway through the summer. Hope you’re having a good one. Here are three things I’m obsessed about this week!
1 – Pimm’s
As you know by now, I like a nice cocktail every now and then. I’ve been racking my brains for an Olympics Opening Ceremony menu. Pimm’s came to mind, but I had never had it before. I looked up some recipes on Gojee, made a trip to the local liquor store, came home and started experimenting. I hit the nail on the head (IMHO) on my first test drink. I love the concoction of Pimm’s, lemonade, lemon and orange slices. Refreshing, light and perfect. Summer in a glass.
2 – Lucky Peach
If you haven’t heard about Lucky Peach by now, it’s a quarterly print journal on food (yes, PRINT!) with a theme for each issue. I thoroughly enjoyed their inaugural issue on ramen. Oh, yes. LP was birthed by David Chang of the Momofuku enterprise and is published by Mcsweeney’s, a site that has turned into a literary empire. The writing is irreverent and humorous. The images and artwork are unapologetic and sometimes shocking. The paper is thick and toothy I could eat it. You can subscribe for the next 4 issues now with the 5th issue due out in November. I just got my 4th issue from Whole Foods for a whopping 12 bucks, but well worth it. It will be perfect reading for my impending visit to the DMV.
3 – A break!
Ever since the kids finished school 4 weeks ago, we’ve had houseguests every week. It’s been fun catching up with old friends and having the kids get acquainted (they need a break also), but lately I’ve been fantasizing about a weekend where I can wake up on a Saturday morning and do absolutely nothing. Yes, nothing sounds good about now.
