Korean Words #Giveaway

July 3, 2014 By Amy Kim

korean_words

We like to mix it up here at kimchi MOM. If you remember, I had a Thursday Three series where I shared three things that interested me that week. Well, I miss doing those posts and I wanted to bring something like that back to the blog. Just a post every now and again where I shoot the breeze and maybe give away some good stuff.

This week I am giving away a children’s book titled “My First Book of Korean Words – An ABC Rhyming Book”. Published by Tuttle Publishing, it’s a cute book that illustrates some basic Korean words. It’s not a formal language learning book, per se, but it introduces the Korean language to kids where English is their first language. The words that are reviewed are associated with objects and activities that most kids are familiar with in English. For example, nolda (playing) and hanbok (Korean traditional clothes). The prose includes the Korean words or hangul that accompanies the anglicized version of the words. And it’s all accompanied by wonderful, dreamy illustrations. This book has been in heavy rotation in our bedtime reading line-up.

Tuttle Publishing has been generous enough to giveaway a copy of this book to one lucky reader. You will not regret having this in your child’s library and they will love you for it. Enter below for a chance to win!

The Tuttle Publishing Company was established in 1948 in Rutland, Vermont, and Tokyo, Japan, and is today regarded as a premier publisher and seller of books rooted in Asian culture, language, and history. You can “like” them on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter and Pinterest.

Disclaimer: I’m required to disclose a relationship between my blog and Tuttle Publishing Company. This could include Tuttle Publishing providing me with content, product, access or other forms of payment.

My kids used to learn Korean from their Korean grandmohter, but since she passed away, they don’t get that much Korean language exposure. This book would be great!

We try to visit with the grandparents as much as possible to get their Korean fix! But I find my parents and in-laws end up falling back on English many times!

My 1 year old granddaughter is learning English from her mother and Spanish from her father. I would love to introduce a third language, her great-grandmother’s Korean and a language my husband can no longer speak.

That’s great! Korean is the first language I learned. I understand a lot of Korean, but I do not speak it at all now. 🙁

My mom and grandmother primarily speak Korean, so they learn a little when they get the chance to visit. My mom also sent some dvd’s of Korean kids shows that they watch. Watching the shows with the kids has also helped me brush up on my Korean.

I need some brushing up also! I can understand a lot of Korean, but I haven’t spoken Korean since I was last in Korea for a language summer program…and that was a long time ago!

We have a few books that offer the words in both English and another language, One of our more interesting books have English and Georgian. We lived abroad for 2 1/2 years, so I thought it would be good to have since he was born there.

No. We lived in Georgia for 2 years as my husband was working for a government contractor. We met some great people and did a lot of traveling in Europe. It was exciting!

I would love to have this for my grandson, who is Korean – His other grandmother was born and raised in South Korea. We all want Andy to be bi-lingual and this book would really help Le teach him the language better!

My toddlers are learning basic Spanish at daycare but I would love to expose them more to the Korean culture since they are half-Korean! This book would be a wonderful resource!

We expose to other languages through conversing with family and friends mostly. I also watch a lot of foreign movies and encourage my children to watch with me.
